About

About Krakow Piano Summer

Krakow Piano Summer is an artistic platform, open to advanced pianists from Poland and abroad who want to experience Krakow’s rich musical tradition. A stay in our city is often the first direct introduction of young artists from the United States, Russia, Japan, France or Germany to Polish history and spirituality. They learn about the great history of Krakow’s artistic past, often discovering that the sources originating from our city created sometimes the cultural circle from which they themselves came.

This program was initiated in 2015 by Adam Wibrowski, a pianist born and educated in Krakow (Music Academy in Krakow, in the class of Prof. Ludwik Stefański), whose long musical career has embraced numerous cultural and pedagogical experiences in outstanding music centres of Paris, Vienna, Hamburg, Budapest, Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, Canton, Singapore, and Sydney. His project Piano as the Mirror of European Culture was accepted by the EU and was carried out at many universities in Europe.

The program

During Krakow Piano Summer which lasts for 15 days, young pianists from Europe, the USA and Asia get acquainted with the history and rich, artistic heritage of Krakow, and more specifically with Krakow’s piano tradition. To this end, they participate in master courses created especially for them. At the same time, all the pianists perform for the Krakow audience, introducing a new accent to the cultural summer season of the city.

This program which opens interpretative traditions for the new generation of pianists, by recognizing it directly at its source, is the first educational and concert program of its kind. The selection of pianists for it takes place at universities in France, Germany, the United States, and Japan.
